Chapter History

At the end of June 2011, Kayla Lemmon and Delaney Dustman had gone to Haiti on a mission trip and were surrounded by a Christian community of people they had never met. It gave them a sense of peace and happiness never felt before. They both prayed separately to God asking that He surround them with a Christian community.

Back in the U.S., Kayla felt that God had laid it on her heart to start a sisterhood whose bond is in Jesus, and took that as a Christian sorority. She knew this was how she was going to find a Christian community. Kayla emailed Delaney and asked her what she thought of forming a Christian sorority. As soon as Delaney read this, she decided that this was a great idea and wanted to help. It really was a surprising call from God.  After a lot of research, the duo found Sigma Alpha Omega® National Christian Sorority. Throughout the summer, they enlisted the help of their friends, people in their Bible study, and put posters around the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The Founding Class of 11 young women was established in February 17th 2012, after over 6 months of prayer.

National History

Sigma Alpha Omega® was formed as a Sister Sorority to Chi Alpha Omega Fraternity. Until January 1998, the Beta Chapter of Chi Alpha Omega at North Carolina State University was a co-ed Christian Fraternity. The active brothers (both males and females) voted to form Sigma Alpha Omega® in hopes of benefiting both the fraternity and the sorority.

Both groups are committed to living according to the ideals of Christ and His Word, uplifting each other through fellowship and service, and bringing the love of Christ to North Carolina State University.
